Laura Jane Turner (she/they) is a multi-award winning, queer actor & filmmaker based in Djilang (Geelong), Australia.
Graduating with First Class Honours from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2013, Laura Jane has gone on to perform locally with Red Stitch Actors Theatre & Complete Works Theatre Company, and internationally with Chunky Move.
Her highly acclaimed and solo performance short film, Curve premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and went on to screen at more than 60 festivals worldwide. Among the 17 awards the film collected throughout its festival run, Curve was awarded Best Short Film at Sitges Film Festival, qualifying the creative team for the 2018 Academy Awards.
In 2020 Laura Jane returned to the stage as Lolita in a sold out season of SLUT, written by award winning playwright, Patricia Cornelius and directed by NIDA graduate, Rachel Baring.
A multi-hyphenate storyteller, Laura Jane has worked successfully as a screenwriter, director, producer, editor, camera operator and 1st AD.
Her work is grounded in women’s storytelling; elevating and supporting stories by and about women.
In 2017, Laura Jane established independent, feminist production company F Word Films in response to the male dominated landscape of the industry and as an umbrella under which her gender diverse stories are created.
Over the last four years, Laura Jane has collaborated with Girls Act Good, a collective of women creatives to create the award winning web series, Last Breath, as well as JMonk Vision to develop multiple shorts and online content.
After coming out in 2020, Laura Jane’s work has diversified to spotlight the stories and voices of the LGBTQIA+ community.
